Giving back to the community

Support Worker Sonia Beamish and some of the Queen of Hearts taking a break from running and enjoying each other’s company.

Recovery Group is one of our favourite hope stories. Women leaving prison come together with women who have been in the community for peer-led encouragement and support. Guided by our Support Workers, this group builds confidence through education, inclusion, and accountability.

They have experienced the genuine care and support of people in our community, a network of hope coming together to create a way forward, and the women’s response to this is powerful: They want to give back.

It’s why they came together to run and walk for cancer research in Victoria. They were the Queen of Hearts team and raised almost $1000.

Senior Support Worker, Laurel Gore and one of the women led the way by running 20 kilometres each. Everyone ran and walked in the morning sun and well into the darkness of the evening, pitching in all day on the track. Dressed in magenta tutus, they ran, they danced, they laughed.

The resilience and hard work of the Queen of Hearts inspires us every day.
